GLASGOW, Ky. – The 2021-22 school calendar for Glasgow Independent School was approved at their monthly board meeting Monday evening.
School officials called the calendar “more traditional.” The calendar begins Aug. 17, according to Director of Pupil Personnel, Dr. Chad Muhlenkamp.
The calendar includes 171 instructional days.
The Board of Education also heard discussion regarding virtual school opportunities. The opportunities extend beyond the current school year, Muhlenkamp said.
Tara Martin, Glasgow Schools’ supervisor of instruction, said the final touches are being placed on the program for grades four through 12. The program uses the Florida Model of Virtual Schooling, which will be set up very similar to the Glasgow Success Academy.
Additional information to take classes or retake classes online will be distributed by school counselors.
In other news, Muhlenkamp said the school has identified five to seven coronavirus cases that were contracted while at a school. He said those cases were not serious.
Superintendent Keith Hale praised efforts of school personnel to limit exposure and spread in populations.
The school system also acknowledged contributions from T.J. Samson Hospital. Glasgow Middle and High School received $500 for their tobacco prevention programs. The hospital also donated $500 to Glasgow High’s Marketing and Media Department.
The Barren County fiscal court donated $1,000 to Glasgow Middle School.
