GLASGOW, Ky. – A band of people has united to display decorations and lights as a part of an initiative called “Light Up Glasgow.”

Ashely Livingston created a Facebook group called “Light Up Glasgow” and asked people to decorate their homes’ exterior for the Christmas season.

“With so much going on this year, I thought it would be a great way to spread Christmas Cheer,” Livingston said in a Facebook message to WCLU News.

The group was created on Nov. 12 and has united over 700 people. Some 45 homes to visit were added to a public list on Monday.

“As a child, I can remember coming home from my Granny and Papa’s house on Christmas Eve,” Livingston said. “My parents would always drive around to look at Christmas Lights.”

The initiative asks that homes be decorated with visible lights or exterior decorations. Some in the public group have posted photographs of their Christmas trees and mantel decorations.

Livingston’s childhood experiences of seeing lights inspired her to recreate those feelings for the community after an arduous year due to the pandemic.

“It was so magical,” Livingston wrote. “I would always stare into the night sky looking and thinking I could see Santa’s Sleigh as we would head out to “Tinsel Town” and then to Norris Ct. to see all their Light Luminaries.”

Those interested in submitting their homes to be added to the public listing should direct message Ashley Livingston on Facebook or through the “Light Up Glasgow” Facebook page. An email may also be sent to astarpace@gmail.com.

Lights should be up and ready by Dec. 1 and remain up through Dec. 31, Livingston said.
