GLASGOW, Ky. – After much discussion and evaluation of KHSAA guidelines, Glasgow High School has released procedures relating to fall sports.

Craig Cassady, GHS athletic director, said the school has several aspects to consider. KHSAA handed down strict guidelines for each sport, and those guidelines also limit the ability of the games to be similar to previous years.

The football stadium, which is nearing completion of upgrades normally has a capacity of about 1700 persons.  But with the state mandated reduction of 30% that means the number of persons allowed in would only be about 500.  That includes all participants, spectators, parents and other essential personnel.  So with only 500 allowed the voucher system is the best way to keep up a head count.

To bridge the gap between hard times and the community’s desire to watch games, the school has decided to not charge an entry fee into any games.

“We have several venues where we normally charge admission for people to get in. During this COVID-19 time, our season has been shortened, we do not have as many home contests,” Cassady said. “We want to be sensitive to the community and their needs. So, this year, for fall sports only, we are not going to charge admission.”

Cassady said vouchers will be presented to fans and families of players on the home and opposing teams, including cheerleaders. Those who purchased season passes in the past are getting an opportunity to obtain those vouchers first, Cassady said.

“Diane Reece, here in the office, has done a wonderful job to reach out to those season ticket holders, or stakeholders, from the past,” Cassady said. “We are going to allow them to have first choice at some of those tickets.”

Students will participate in a lottery to obtain tickets. Dr. Amy Allen, the school’s principal, is leading that effort.

Cassady said several new requirements are in place for each game, per the KHSAA.

“One of the things at each one of our venues – whether its soccer, volleyball, or football – we are going to have to do a temperature check before any participant comes into the game,” Cassady said.

Essential COVID-19 questions will also be asked of each person.

Masks are required at every event, including those outdoors. The only exception is when spectators are consuming food.

A form is available online to request a voucher for general admission tickets. The form will be uploaded each week, and the first 50 people who request a ticket will be honored. Once the 50 person limit has been reached the form will close.

It is on a first-come-first-served basis.
