Members of Barren County High School’s FFA chapter walk and ride as their float makes its way down a street in Glasgow during the annual Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018. The parade was delayed one day to expected inclement weather on Dec. 1.

GLASGOW, Ky. – The Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce’s Community Christmas Parade will happen on Dec. 5 this year.

The announcement came Tuesday after the Christmas Parade details were finalized. In an earlier conversation, Chamber Director Ernie Myers said the parade committee would consider whether to hold the annual event this year or not due to COVID-19 concerns.

The theme this year is “Heroes of 2020,” and the grand marshal consists of local doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and first responders.

To be in compliance with the CDC and mandates handed down by the Office of the Governor, parade units and floats are asked to limit the maximum number of people riding or being involved to 10 people. Spectators are asked to remain with their families and are asked to wear a mask.

The route will extend along South Green Street to the South Gate Plaza. The normal route ends near Glasgow Baptist Church and Save-A-Lot, but the route is extended this year to promote social distancing among those watching.

Applications will be available on Oct. 1, and they will be available at www.glasgowbarrenchamber.com.

The application, along with the $15 entry fee, must be received by Friday, Nov. 6. They may be submitted at the Chamber of Commerce, which is located at 118 E. Public Square in Glasgow. After Nov. 6, the entry fee increases to $30. The last time to submit an application is Nov. 20 at 4 p.m.

Every unit requires one application. Those without an application will be unable to participate in the parade.
