Marcus D. Sherfey, Jr. Age 86, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at The Monroe County Medical Center.  He was born November 5, 1933, in Mt.

Hermon, the son of the late Marcus D. Sherfey and Beatrice Payne Sherfey.  On December 21, 1956, he married Naomi Eubank.  Mr. Sherfey taught in the Monroe County School System for many years, served as Principal at Fountain Run Elementary, as well as having served in the Superintendent’s Office and ran his own printing business for 50 years.

He was known by those who loved him to have, by faith, a positive, and thankful outlook on life.

Marcus joined Sand Lick Baptist Church in his youth and was a current member of Old Tompkinsville Baptist Church. He found his calling as a Missionary Baptist Preacher and had preached for sixty-three years.

Marcus was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and served his country proudly in The United States Army.

Marcus is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Naomi.  He is also survived by his children; Mark Anthony Sherfey and wife Laurie of Monterey, TN, Sheila Emberton and husband James of Tompkinsville; one sister, Bernell Kendall of Tompkinsville; Eight grandchildren, Shayne

(Cindy) Emberton, Trent (Chelsea) Emberton, Mark Sherfey Jr., Tara Sherfey, Hannah (Drew) Prosser, Tyler (Mary) Sherfey, Daniel and Ethan Sherfey; nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, John Timothy Sherfey.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. from The Chapel of Anderson-Bartley Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with interment to follow in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn Mausoleum.

Services will be conducted by Elder Don Curtis and Elder Tim Britt.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2020, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday morning from 7:00 a.m. until time for services at 2:00. Masonic Rights will be conducted on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

**Due to Covid-19 and the restrictions from The Government and CDC, masks must be worn upon entry of the funeral home. ** Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the Monroe County Retired Teachers Scholarship, or Old Tompkinsville Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Sherfey. These Donations may be made at the funeral home.
