GLASGOW, Ky. β A case of rabies was recently observed in a Barren County dog.
The dog tested positive in the southern portion of the county on Aug. 4. The animal was exhibiting signs and symptoms of the illness and was submitted by a veterinarian, according to the Barren River District Health Department.
βAt this time it is unknown how the dog became infected,β a press release said.
Rabies is a viral disease that attacks the nervous system. While it is predominately seen in bats and skunks, the disease can also be observed in domestic animals like dogs and cats. The best protection for pet owners and their families is to ensure rabies vaccinations are up to date.
