Four additional advertising billboards could now be built in the city
limits in the future. City Attorney Danny Basil told the City Council
Monday night about a ruling handed down recently in an appeal filed by
individuals who applied to build 4 new billboards in Glasgow. The city
has an ordinance that caps the total billboard in the city to 25. We have
25 now, but that includes 4 on the Cumberland Parkway which is also in the
city limits. In the appeal a judge ruled that since the State governs all
billboards on parkways, the city couldn’t count those in their total, so
4 more billboards could be built and comply with the ordinance. In
summary Basil told the council “we now have a situation where there’s four
pending applications for these four new billboards and there’s a lot of
people who would like to have them. But, I think because they were active
applications and filed first they will probably be the ones who get those
four.”
