GLASGOW, Ky. – Bethany Schalk, a recent graduate of Barren County High School, was elected recently to serve as the 2020-21 Kentucky FFA Reporter.

Bethany is the daughter of Chris and Bretta Schalk, both of Fountain Run. She is a member of the Barren County FFA chapter. The advisors are Doug Berry, Dr. Andy Joe Moore, and AJ Mitchell.

Bethany was one of 23 candidates who ran for state office from across the commonwealth, an FFA news release said.

Before her election, she completed an application and an online interview process. A Nominating Committee comprised of graduating senior FFA members and a delegate body elected Schalk.

“Serving as a Kentucky FFA officer has always been a goal of mine,” Schalk said. “In this new role, I get to help members find their place in agricultural education, the agriculture industry and the national FFA organization.”

State FFA officers commit a year of service to the organization, the news release said.

Officers complete extensive training following their election. They travel several thousand miles representing the State Association at local and regional FFA events, agricultural meetings, and various other functions across the state.

Schalk’s year of service will conclude during the 92nd State FFA Convention, which will be held June 8-10, 2021 in Lexington.

Schalk is a 2020 graduate of Barren County High School. She has served as an officer at BCHS’ FFA chapter and is her class president.
