Two Barren County natives die in Thursday crash

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. – Two people from Barren County died in a Thursday crash in Bullitt County.

The Pioneer Newspaper reports Shepherdsville Police are investigating a multi-vehicle accident that occurred near the Bullitt County Detention Center.

A Honda Civic with three occupants was traveling westbound along Highway 480, according to police. At 10:19 a.m., Mary Strode, 69, of Cecilia, failed to stop her Civic at the intersection of Highway 480 and Preston Highway. The car entered the intersection and was struck by two commercial vehicles.

Johnny Lee Stumph, 56, of Cave City, and Strode died at the scene of the crash.

Joan Stumph, 78, of Cave City, and the mother of Johnny, was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital where she later died.

The Pioneer reports the drivers of the commercial vehicles were not injured.
