Barren County led South Warren for most of the first three quarters Friday night, but was outscored by 10 points over the final eight and a half minutes. The Trojans dropped to 1-1 with the 73-64 loss.
“[Aden Nyekan and Will Bandy] each had three fouls and I thought that was where the game really turned,” Barren County coach Warren Cunningham said of the Spartans’ rally that began in the third quarter. “We were up … (South Warren) really hurt us on the glass with those two guys being out. We didn’t rebound the ball.”
“We had some good shots in that stretch that we didn’t make and we turned it over a little bit,” he added.
South Warren jumped up by as many as eight points early in the fourth quarter. Barren rallied and an and-1 by Bandy with 5:38 on the clock tied the contest at 52.
The teams traded baskets for the next two minutes, but South Warren put together a final run that began with 3:38 left in the game. The Spartans outscored the Trojans 15-6 the rest of the way.
