The Barren County Trojanettes used a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter Tuesday night to secure a 57-48 win over visiting Green County in their season-opener.
Elizabeth Bertram, who led Barren with 22 points, sparked the run with a pair of 3-pointers. The first came with the Trojanettes ahead 42-40 with 5:33 left in the game.
“We’ve talked about … what she does out on the court, but now we are wanting her to step up a little bit as a vocal leader,” Barren County coach Piper Lindsey said of Bertram. She is the only returning starter from last year’s team that made it to the state tournament.
After Bertram’s second 3, Macy Lockhart converted a 3-point play and Barren led 51-40 with 3:45 to play.
Green did not threaten the lead again in the game.
