The Caverna Lady Colonels opened the 2019-20 basketball season Monday night with a 50-36 win over Fort Knox.
The Lady Colonels put together a 14-8 run in the third quarter to pull away for the win. McKeeya Faulkner sparked the run with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws. Kaliana Richardson added pair of buckets.
Stacia Burnett nailed a 3 and later hit a layup that put the Lady Colonels ahead 36-26 late in the third period. It was their first double-digit lead of the game.
Caverna coach Cornelius Faulkner said his team was shaky with the ball in the first half, but that was to be expected with point guard Burnett in the early stages of returning from a knee injury.
“We’ve got to clean that up and do better on the boards,” he said. “I thought Stacia did a good considering the injury she’s coming back from.”
“Briley Hoskins really stepped up for us in the fourth quarter,” he added.
