Latcher Harbison, second grade, and Acey Houchens, kindergarten, both students at Red Cross Elementary, were named as finalists in a statewide writing contest hosted by Kentucky Education Television.

GLASGOW — Two students at Red Cross Elementary School were recognized as finalists in this year’s KET Young Writers Contest.
The contest is an annual contest that encourages creative expression and literacy development, according to Library Media Specialist Amy Shipley. Students are invited to submit original writings across four categories of stories – illustrated, short, poetry and graphic novels.
Acey Houchens was named a finalist in the “Short Story” primary division. Houchens is a kindergarten student from Cave City.
Latcher Harbison was named a finalist in the “Illustrated Story Second Grade Division” for his work entitled “Adventures in Phoenix Royals Academy.” Harbison is a second grade student from Glasgow. He also gained third place in the “Poetry Primary (K-2) Division” for his work entitled “Ear Hair.”
