HORSE CAVE — The search for the next superintendent of Caverna Independent Schools continues, and the school board reports nine people have submitted applications for the position.
The district’s application deadline was Feb. 25. Eight of the candidates are from Kentucky, according to a social media post from the school board.
“Our KASA search representative, Benny Lile, shared with us that this is near the average number of applicants that districts are receiving in recent years,” said Wayne Hatcher, school board chairperson. “He tells us there really doesn’t seem to be a trend between small or large districts.”
There are eight in-state applicants, the board said. One applicant is a current superintendent, two are former superintendents, four hold a central office position and two are principals.
“I look forward to the screening committee getting to work over the next few weeks,” Hatcher said. “Our goals is still to have someone in place by the end of April.”
Cornelius Faulkner, current superintendent, plans to resign this summer.
