Father indicted in connection to abuse, neglect of autistic son

(BARREN COUNTY DETENTION CENTER)

GLASGOW — A Barren County man was indicted in connection to abuse and neglect of his autistic and non-verbal adult son that occurred days before his death last September.

Richard L. Wix, 53, was indicted for neglecting and abusing his then 30-year-old son Richard B. Wix. The younger Wix was discovered dead inside his father’s West Front Street home last fall.

The grand jury returned an indictment Jan. 19 charging one count of knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult, which is a Class C felony. The abuse happened between Sept. 16 and 19, 2021, according to the indictment.

Wix was charged with reckless homicide, but there was not an indictment returned for the charge. An indictment is an accusation only. It does not indicate whether Wix is guilty of the crime.

He’s scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. It’s unclear whether Wix has an attorney.
