Barren River Drug Task Force and Kentucky State Police make traffic stop in Glasgow

On Thursday, November 12th, 2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m. the Barren River Drug Task Force and Kentucky State Police made a traffic stop on a 2019 white Nissan pick-up truck on Smith Rd. in Glasgow.

The vehicle was being operated by 40-year-old Eric Ray Sturgeon of Cave City. Mr. Sturgeon was extremely nervous and unsteady. Mr. Sturgeon declined consent to search and a K-9 was requested. Trooper Jordan Matthews conducted a field sobriety test on Mr. Sturgeon and based on the tests, Mr. Sturgeon was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence 1st.

The K-9 gave a positive alert to the odor of illegal narcotics from the vehicle which led to the discovery of over a pound of crystal methamphetamine along with marijuana, pill, paraphernalia and cash. Mr. Sturgeon was additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, 2nd offence > or = 2 grams of meth.

He was lodged in the Barren County Jail. The DTF later executed a search warrant for a vehicle and the residence of Mr. Sturgeon where two handguns, paraphernalia and additional cash were found. Mr. Sturgeon is prohibited from possessing firearms. Additional charges are pending.
