At 2:35 p.m. central time Wednesday, nearly 30 children from our area will be performing on a stage in front of thousands. They are members of the Triple Threat program at the Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County.

Gabby Hayes said Saturday at the Plaza Theatre in downtown Glasgow the journey began before the Triple Threat program was actually formed. The Boys and Girls Club children were about to rehearse on a stage in preparation for Wednesday’s performance.

She said she sent in the audition for the group to perform at the Midwestern Conference in Detroit, Michigan, and had missed the “fine print” that stated the event is for groups of six or fewer performers. But, the local club unit director said she heard back, “… and they wanted all 27.”

Hayes said the children have been working hard to go to the conference and represent the local club well. They will perform in front of Boys and Girls Club leaders and groups from across the Midwest Region.

“I told them when I sent in the audition they had to be serious about this, or we were not doing it,” she added. “They said they would, and they have been.”

“If they put in the work to do it, we’re gonna put in the work to make sure that they get there,” Hayes said.

To that end, Hayes said they have been accepting monetary donations from the community to help offset the coast of the trip. The children and adults leave Tuesday morning at 5 a.m. for the seven hour trip north.

The Triple Threat program at the club is focused on the performing arts.

Hayes said it refers to children learning how to act, sing and dance.

While in Detroit, six club members will get to be on stage with Boys and Girls Club of America Chief Executive Officer Jim Clark.

Hayes said the local club’s growth and success has put it on the national stage.
