The Barren County Opioid Settlement Committee identified nine grant applicants to move forward to interviews. The committee members agreed to the structure of interviews during the Nov. 2 special-called meeting.

The interview list includes Barren River Area Development District, Bethesda, Commonwealth Broadcasting, Community Partners for Recovery, Bridge Kentucky, Next Steps, Barren County Drug Court, Barren County Progress and Turn the Page Case Management.

Representatives for the nine applicants will have three minutes to explain their organizations’ plans for the grant money, followed by a three-minute question and answer session with the committee members. That will take place at the Nov. 16 committee meeting.

Committee members discussed negotiating funding amounts rather than necessarily awarding each applicant the full amount requested.

During the discussion Nov. 2, members emphasized supporting existing programs in Barren County ahead of helping outside agencies establish services locally. The review focused on how proposals would benefit Barren County residents. They used those guidelines to eliminate six other grant applicants from moving to the interview step.
