Oct 26, 2026 | 10:22 AM

Harmon Richard Milam, 85, of Summer Shade, KY passed away at his residence on October 24, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on March 20, 1941, in Cumberland County to the late Richard Haden and Clara White Milam.

Harmon spent his life rooted in the place he called home in Summer Shade. He was a farmer, and that work reflected the steady, hardworking spirit with which he lived. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, crosscut sawing, and dancing, and he found special happiness in simple pleasures and time shared with others.

Harmon was known for spending time with his family and friends, telling stories and recalling memories that reached all the way back to his boyhood. Those conversations, shared with warmth and familiarity, were part of what made him such a memorable presence to the people around him. He carried with him a deep connection to the past and a gift for keeping memories alive through the stories he told.

Above all, his faith was an important part of his life. He was baptized and professed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, a commitment that stood as one of the proudest and most meaningful parts of his life.

Survivors include two sons Kevin Lynn Milam (Kim) of Summer Shade, KY and Daniel Lee “Boonie” Milam (Amanda) of Beaumont, KY; a special friend of 14 years Brenda Crumpton of Summer Shade, KY; four grandchildren Madison Deweese (Caleb), Kylie Wilson (Curtis), Shea Milam and Marlee Milam; two great grandchildren Hattie Deweese and Baylor Wilson; seven siblings Elvin Milam (Ronnie), Bobby Milam (Kathy), Gretta Rhoton (Randal), Linda Wilson (Joe), Charlotte Shaw (David), Sharon Samson (Neil) and Patty Gentry (Darrell) and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Gwenda Rogers, Royce Milam and Daryl Milam.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1:00-8:00pm and will continue Wednesday after 8:00am at McMurtrey Funeral Home.
