Joan Carmickle Norris, age 73, departed this life on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Morgantown Care and Rehabilitation, leaving behind treasured memories in the hearts of those who knew her. Born on September 11, 1953, Joan was a lifelong native of Edmonson County and the daughter of the late Bethel Earl and Wanda Minton Carmickle.
Joan devoted a portion of her career to serving the people of her community, working as a special deputy for the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office under the administration of the late James Holder. She also served in toll facilities for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Through her work, she became a part of the community she called home and contributed to the place and people she knew so well.
Beyond her professional life, Joan treasured the simple joys of family, faith, and community. She attended Community Church at Cedar Springs, where she found fellowship and spiritual connection. She was also a former member of the Wingfield Homemakers, where she shared special friendships.
Above all, Joan enjoyed spending time with her family, creating meaningful memories and sharing moments that will be held close to the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves to honor her memory— her son, Andy Potter of Smiths Grove, KY; two grandchildren, Andrea Potter and Amber Potter; five great-grandchildren; her siblings, Bethel “Simon” Carmickle (Kristie) of Bowling Green and Lawrence Carmickle (Melissa) of Lindseyville; her companion, Tommy Vincent; caregiver and dear friend, Gena Yoakem, along with several nieces, nephews and special cousins. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Clark.
