Plaza Theatre executive director Carolyn Glodfelter has been fired, according to Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse.
Royse said Tuesday the decision was not based on misconduct or any violation of law.
Instead, he said city leaders believe the Plaza needs to adapt to changes in the theatre and entertainment industry.
Glodfelter was hired in September 2015 to lead the Plaza Theatre.
For nearly 11 years, she oversaw the venue’s day-to-day operations, events and programming.
Royse said concerns about the theatre’s performance contributed to the decision to remove her.
He pointed to the number of shows being held, as well as how events were promoted and how acts were recruited, saying those efforts were not producing the results the city wanted.
The mayor also said there had been no performance improvement plan or other formal recommendation given to Glodfelter before her dismissal.
He said the decision reflects a broader vision for the Plaza that includes adjusting to shifts in how audiences experience entertainment.
The Plaza Theatre Advisory Board is scheduled to hold a special-called meeting Wednesday, with personnel listed as the only item on the agenda.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Glasgow City Hall Council Chambers at 126 E. Public Square. This meeting is open to the public.
