Marshall Reid Bailey, beloved father, son, brother, husband, grandfather, uncle, great grandfather, friend, and longtime local business owner went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 10, 2026.
Marshall, 89, was the loving son of the late Paul and Lucille Matthews Bailey of Temple Hill. He was the last surviving member of the ever handsome and charming “Bailey Boys” consisting of Bobby, Danny, Joe, and Marshall.
After attending Temple Hill High School, Marshall married his sweetheart Carol Ritter and moved to Fort Hood, Texas to serve in the US Army. He served on base with Elvis Presley, and was said to have gained the favor of his commanding officers by attaining any item they could possibly think of.
His love for cars and strong instincts for sales led him to sell cars for Peterson Buick Pontiac, where he eventually joined forces with Danny Gibson and built Bailey-Gibson Buick Pontiac GMC, which served the community’s car buying needs for over 50 years. He also enjoyed serving as the president of the Kentucky Auto Dealers Association.
Outside of his work at the dealership, Marshall found great joy in bringing homes to life. His legacy includes building and remodeling more than 100 homes in the local area, as well as developing the Ritter Chase neighborhood – a lasting tribute to his wife’s family name.
Marshall was an incredible dad to two daughters and the ultimate fun grandpa. When the kids were little, he could easily be spotted sitting on the floor playing, racing around in a golf cart, or sharing bowls of ice cream. When they were older, he guided them with his love and wisdom. They adored him.
Marshall loved his community and was an active member of the Glasgow Baptist Church. He served on the Barren County Chamber of Commerce and got a charge from the big laughs he got speaking at the Rotary Club. More importantly, he had a heart for helping others. He regularly visited people in their time of need. After his beloved wife Carol passed away in 2005, he partnered with Dr. Bharat Mody to create the Carol Bailey Memorial Golf Tournament, which is still going strong raising money to help community members in need of medical care.
Marshall remarried in 2014 to Patty Dickson and enjoyed several years before her death.
Marshall Bailey was a force during the 89 years he was with us, and the impact he had on others cannot be measured. He will be well remembered and sorely missed.
He is survived by his two daughters, Maria Bailey of Glasgow and Angela Greenfield and her husband, Mark, of Bloomington, IN; six grandchildren, Kyle (Jake) Houts of Glasgow; Bailey Kirkland of Glasgow; William (Jaime) Kirkland of Pearl City, Hawaii; Sophie Greenfield of Bloomington, IN; Benjamin Greenfield of St. Louis, MO; and Lylah Greenfield of Bloomington, IN; two great-grandchildren, Oliver Houts and Asher Kirkland; sister-in-law Shirley Blanck of Clarksville, TN; brother-in-law Max (Deb) Ritter of Brentwood, TN; sister-in-law Joyce Bailey of Glasgow and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Carol Ritter Bailey; his brother, Joe (Joyce) Bailey; mother and father-in-law, Wallace and Elizabeth (Matthews) Ritter; sister-in-law, Patsy Bunch and her husband, Roy; sister-in-law, Peggy Reece and her husband Herbert; brother-in-law, Harvey Blanck; niece, Mariann Reece; nephew, Jeff Bunch; and nephew, Richard Reece.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to TJ Community Mission Foundation.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 16th, at Glasgow Baptist Church, with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, and after 9:00 AM, Wednesday, at the church. Military honors will be provided at the Glasgow DAV Chapter #20.
