The 85th annual Etoile Fair is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1111 Caney Fork Road in Etoile, Kentucky, with events starting at 9 a.m. The fair will be a full day of activities, contests, food and entertainment for all ages.
The morning starts at 9 a.m. with several family-friendly events. There will be a pet show with a two dollar entry fee, an antique tractor and lawnmower show and a baby show for children from newborn to age 5. A cornhole tournament also begins at 9 a.m., giving teams a chance to compete early in the day.
At 10 a.m., the schedule continues with a pedal pull, followed by frog jumping contests at 11 a.m. A champion frog jump-off is planned for noon. These traditional events are among the fair’s longtime favorites.
Athletic contests for children begin at 1 p.m. and include a three-legged race, sack race and several 50-yard dashes for boys and girls in age groups 8 to 11 and 12 to 14. There are also 25-yard dashes for ages 5 to 7 and 3 to 4.
The children’s events also feature standing broad jumps for multiple age groups. Girls and boys ages 12 to 14 and 9 to 11 have separate divisions, and there are additional standing broad jump events for ages 3 to 5 and 6 to 8.
Adults have their own athletic schedule with classic fair games. Events include a three-legged race, sack race, 50-yard dash, a wheelbarrow race and a married rolling pin throwing contest. The rolling pin throw is divided into two groups, with one division for newlyweds married one to five years and another for seniors married more than five years.
The fair’s afternoon and evening lineup adds even more variety. A beauty pageant for ages 6 and up is set for 3 p.m., followed by a fish fry and auction at 3:30 p.m. A cake walk and the Eddy Myers Show are scheduled for 5 p.m., leading into a country ham drawing at 5:55 p.m.
The day concludes with a horse show and stick horse race at 6 p.m., giving both riders and younger participants a chance to be part of the action. According to organizers, all activities at the Etoile Fair are cash only, so visitors are encouraged to plan ahead.
