Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear visited Glasgow Preschool Academy to highlight the importance of early childhood education and his Preschool for All initiative, which seeks to expand access to high-quality preschool for Kentucky’s four-year-olds.
During the visit, Beshear toured the academy, visited classrooms, and interacted with students and educators.
They say he observed firsthand the meaningful learning experiences that Glasgow Independent Schools believes help the community’s youngest Scotties build a strong foundation for future success.
The Governor’s visit provided an opportunity to spotlight the Preschool for All campaign and the push to ensure more Kentucky children have access to high-quality early learning before they enter kindergarten.
According to the district, the initiative reflects a broader commitment to preparing children for school, supporting working families, and investing in the long-term success of communities across the Commonwealth.
For Glasgow Independent Schools, the visit was also a chance to showcase the district’s ongoing commitment to early childhood education and its programs at Glasgow Preschool Academy.
District leaders say students at the academy engage in purposeful play, early literacy and numeracy experiences, social-emotional learning, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
Those efforts are designed to build curiosity, confidence, independence, and a love of learning from an early age.
“We are incredibly proud to welcome Governor Beshear to Glasgow Preschool Academy and to have the opportunity to showcase the outstanding work of our students and staff,” Superintendent Chad Muhlenkamp said in a statement.
“We believe a child’s educational journey begins long before kindergarten,” Muhlenkamp said.
“Expanding access to high-quality preschool gives more children the opportunity to enter school with a strong foundation and ready to learn.”
District officials say the goals of Preschool for All align with Glasgow Independent Schools’ belief that investing early in students can have an impact that extends throughout their educational journey.
By removing barriers to preschool access, the initiative aims to ensure that a child’s opportunity to benefit from high-quality early learning is not determined by family income or circumstance, according to the district.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to begin school feeling confident, capable, and connected,” Glasgow Preschool Academy Supervisor Yvonne Wilkinson said.
“At Glasgow Preschool Academy, we see every day what is possible when young children are surrounded by caring educators and given meaningful opportunities to learn, explore, and grow,” Wilkinson said.
District leaders say Beshear’s visit celebrated Glasgow Preschool Academy students and educators while drawing attention to a broader conversation about the future of early childhood education across Kentucky.
Glasgow Independent Schools extended its appreciation to the governor and his team for visiting the district, spending time with students and staff, and continuing to emphasize the importance of early learning across the Commonwealth.
For Glasgow’s youngest Scotties, district officials say preschool represents more than preparation for kindergarten.
