Kentucky State Police Post Three say they will conduct a series of traffic safety checkpoints at multiple locations across Barren County.
According to state police, the effort is focused on reducing crashes that result in injuries or deaths by targeting areas with a history of collisions and low safety restraint use.
Troopers at the checkpoints plan to look for impaired drivers, children who are not properly restrained in child safety seats, and drivers or passengers who are not wearing seat belts.
Officials say they also intend to use the checkpoints to inform the public about the importance of seat belts and proper child restraints.
The locations selected in Barren County include several points along U.S. 31W near the Edmonson County line and the Hart County line.
Other U.S. routes on the list include U.S. 31E at Jack Turner Road and U.S. 68 at Kentucky 255 in Bon Ayr.
Kentucky routes scheduled for checkpoints include Kentucky 70 at Kentucky 314, Kentucky 255 and Kentucky 740 in Hiseville.
Additional locations include Kentucky 1846 at Old Lexington Road, Kentucky 249 about a half mile south of the Glasgow city limits, and Kentucky 249 at the Monroe County line.
State police say the checkpoints will be set up in the Post Three service area, which includes Barren County, and will focus on places that have experienced a high ratio of crashes with injuries or deaths when compared with relatively low seat belt usage.
