Barren County officials are preparing to set property tax rates for the 2026–27 fiscal year when the Fiscal Court meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Barren County Government Center in downtown Glasgow.

According to the draft agenda and resolution language, magistrates are scheduled to consider a countywide property tax rate of 12.2 cents per 100 dollars of assessed valuation on real estate and on real estate owned by public service companies.

The same 12.2-cent rate per 100 dollars would also apply to tangible personal property, under the proposal.

Aircraft used for recreation and non-commercial watercraft would be taxed at 15.3 cents per 100 dollars of assessed valuation.

According to the document, revenue from all of the county property tax levies would be used for general governmental services.

The resolution states that the new tax rates would become effective immediately upon adoption by the Barren County Fiscal Court.

The agenda for the meeting also lists several routine financial and administrative items, including approval of minutes from the Aug. 18 meeting, payment of claims, transfer of funds, personnel actions and appointments to boards and councils.

Beyond tax policy, magistrates are slated to address several property and contract decisions, including canceling an option to lease with Wabuck.

The court is also scheduled to consider an option for a long-term ground lease with the Hero Foundation.

Another item would authorize two county dump trucks and drivers to take part in a Lakeshore Cleanup event planned for Sept. 19.

The agenda further includes a series of invoices for approval.

Those items include a $243,488.50 invoice from Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects and $33,704.43 cents in invoices from Aramark.

Other listed payments are $5,100 to Team First Sports, $5,560.63 cents to the Kentucky State Treasurer, $6,000 to Autonomy Today, $6,940.02 to Thomas Oil and Fuel, $8,750 to Community Relief Fund, $11,250 to Arnold Consulting Engineering Services and $65,900.96 cents to Municipal Capital Finance.

The meeting notice also indicates that the next regular Fiscal Court session is scheduled for Sept. 15, 2026.
