Habitat for Humanity leaders are inviting local residents and businesses to grab a putter and help support homebuilding efforts in Barren County.
Glasgow-Barren County Habitat for Humanity is organizing a miniature golf fundraiser at the Jesse James Stables miniature golf course in Cave City, according to board member Cynthia Watson.
Watson said the nonprofit continues to build homes for qualifying families in Barren County, but still relies heavily on community fundraising to buy land and construction materials.
She emphasized that Habitat is a nonprofit organization, even though homeowners are expected to repay their loans.
The miniature golf event is designed to be both a fundraiser and a fun community outing.
Teams of four can register as co-workers, families or friends and will play 18 holes during a one-hour time slot.
Watson said organizers plan five rounds throughout the day, with room for nine teams on the course during each round, allowing several dozen teams to take part overall.
To keep the event lighthearted, the course will feature some playful and unusual holes.
Watson described one planned “pinball machine” style hole, where three team members stand on the green while the fourth tries to putt around them.
Participants are encouraged, but not required, to dress up and lean into friendly rivalries, especially between competing local businesses.
Watson said teams can play during their assigned hour and leave or stay longer to network and socialize, with photos planned throughout the day.
Registration fees are set up to reward early signups.
Watson said there is an early-bird special of $150 per four-person team before Aug. 31, with the team fee rising to $200 after that date.
The fundraiser also offers several sponsorship levels for businesses and individuals who want to support Habitat beyond entering a team.
Watson said sponsorships begin at $100 for a hole sponsor and go up to a Master Putter sponsor level.
Allied Rentals, located on Edmonton Road near Glasgow High School, is already on board as one of the Master Putter sponsors.
Watson credited colleagues at Monticello Bank with helping develop and organize the miniature golf concept.
She said the bank’s staff played a major role in shaping the event and coordinating details with Jesse James Stables.
