A free program this Thursday evening will focus on helping local families understand the dangers of social media and how to keep kids safe online.
The event, titled “The Dangers of Social Media,” will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cave Area Conference Center, according to Terry Smith.
The program is being sponsored by the Caverna Family Resource Youth Service Center and presented by Cyber Safe Schools.
Smith said the evening is designed for parents, grandparents, caregivers and guardians who have questions or concerns about how children are using technology and social media.
They emphasized that the event is not limited to Caverna families and is open to the broader community.
The presenter, retired detective Micheal Lemon, will cover cyberbullying, basic technology rules and how to set boundaries with students online.
The program is also expected to address online relationships, sextortion and major social media platforms such as TikTok and Snapchat.
Smith said the main goal is to give adults practical information so they can better protect children from online risks while still making use of technology in positive ways.
The Thursday evening event is free to attend and will include a meal catered by Diane White.
Door prizes will be offered, including several sets of Cincinnati Reds tickets for the remaining home games, according to Smith.
