Police say a 19-year-old Glasgow man is facing multiple charges after an alleged overnight break-in and assault at a closed Taco Bell. Officers say the incident left a restaurant employee with serious injuries to two fingers.
According to a uniform citation, Glasgow Police Department officers responded around 12:59 a.m. Saturday to a report of several people trying to break into the Taco Bell. Authorities say the restaurant was closed and locked at the time of the call.
Police say they stopped a vehicle believed to be involved and spoke with witnesses and employees at the restaurant. Witnesses told officers that a passenger in the vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Grayson Abney of Glasgow, spit at the drive-thru window.
According to police, witnesses reported that Abney threatened to hurt an employee and began yelling during the confrontation. Witnesses said Abney then closed the drive-thru window on the employee’s fingers, and officers say the worker suffered serious physical injuries to two fingers.
Authorities say witnesses also reported that a beer was thrown at the drive-thru window during the incident. Police did not specify who allegedly threw the beer in the citation.
According to the citation, witnesses further stated that the restaurant’s front door was closed and locked when Abney forcibly opened it. Officials say witnesses reported that Abney then stood in the doorway while continuing to threaten to hurt an employee.
Police say witnesses told them Abney went into the dining area of the Taco Bell before returning to the vehicle and leaving the scene. No other injuries were reported in the citation.
After officers reviewed surveillance video of the incident, they said Abney appeared to be the aggressor in what the citation described as a “threatening and hostile” interaction. The report does not detail the full contents of the video.
Authorities say Abney was later detained and questioned about the incident. According to police, Abney admitted to spitting at the drive-thru window but said it was not intentional.
Police say Abney denied closing the drive-thru window on the employee’s fingers and denied throwing a beer during the confrontation. The citation indicates officers relied on witness accounts and surveillance footage in making the charging decision.
According to the citation, Abney was arrested and taken to the Barren County Detention Center. He faces charges of third-degree burglary, second-degree assault and first-degree criminal mischief in connection with the incident.
