All Barren County Schools preschool sites have earned a 5-star rating through the Kentucky Department of Education’s Kentucky All STARS program, according to the district.

District officials say the 5-star designation is the highest quality rating available for state-funded preschool programs in Kentucky.

During the 2025–2026 school year, each Barren County preschool site underwent a comprehensive evaluation as part of Kentucky All STARS, which is the Commonwealth’s Quality Rating and Improvement System.

The evaluation looks at multiple indicators of quality, including classroom instruction, staff qualifications and professional development, leadership, learning environments, and family engagement.

Earning a 5-star rating signifies that a preschool program has met the highest standards of quality established by the Kentucky Department of Education.

District leaders say the recognition demonstrates a strong commitment to providing exceptional early childhood education and building learning environments where young children can thrive.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the incredible dedication of our preschool staff,” said Christa Middleton, director of special programs for Barren County Schools.

“Our teachers, instructional assistants, therapists, administrators, and support staff work tirelessly each day to provide engaging, high-quality learning experiences for our youngest students.

We are incredibly proud of their commitment to excellence.”

The district says the achievement highlights Barren County Schools’ continued investment in high-quality early childhood education across the community.

Leaders also point to the 5-star rating as support for the district’s mission to ensure every child enters kindergarten ready to learn and succeed.

Barren County Schools is congratulating each preschool team for earning the recognition and is publicly thanking them for their dedication to children and families throughout the district.
