Barren County is opening applications for a new Drug Task Force director as longtime director Ron Lafferty prepares to retire at the end of October.
Lafferty has spent 23 years with the Drug Task Force, including 13 years as director, and plans to step down on Oct. 31.
The Barren County Fiscal Court is now accepting applications for the Drug Task Force director position.
The director is responsible for overseeing the administration and operations of the task force, according to the fiscal court.
Duties include coordinating investigations, managing grant compliance and reporting requirements, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and preparing budgets.
The director also works with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to support drug enforcement efforts throughout the region.
Qualified applicants should have strong leadership, organizational, communication and administrative skills, according to the court. Experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, grant administration or a related field is preferred, but not explicitly required.
Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.
Resumes may be submitted by email to the county finance address or mailed to the Barren County Judge/Executive’s Office at 117 North Public Square, Suite 1A, in Glasgow.
Lafferty said he personally hopes to see someone from the local area step into the director role.
County officials have not yet announced a timeline for selecting a successor.
