The SOKY Lady Soldiers recently won a USSSA 8-under softball national title.
The team based in Glasgow won the USSSA Golf Coast Nationals over the weekend by going undefeated in the tournament. In the title game Saturday night they rallied to beat Gulf Coast, 15-14, with a walk-off, according to a post on the team’s Facebook page.
In pool play games, the Lady Soldiers tied Saline County Slammers from Arkansas 9-9, then blanked Tennessee Static 8-0.
In bracket competition, they opened with a 9-3 win against Tennessee’s Lynchburg Lightning, then beat Speed (Alabama) 12-8 and topped Oklahoma Elite 13-8.
In semifinals the Lady Soldiers beat Gulf Coast Ballers from Alabama 11-10. That set up a dramatic rematch with Gulf Coast in the title game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Soldiers faced two outs with two runners on base. They trailed Gulf Coast, 14-13. A big hit drove in two runs to win the title game.
The team includes players from Allen, Barren, Hart, and Warren counties in southcentral Kentucky.
