Glasgow rallied from an early 3-0 hole to beat Barren County, 9-3, in the first game of their two-day, 15th District series.
The Trojans scored all three of their runs in the top of the first inning. Colton Wilson drew a one-out walk. Jaxon Pierce followed with a single, then an error allowed Wilson to score from first and for Pierce to reach third base.
After another out, Cameron Crawford drove in Pierce with a single. Price Thompson followed with a single that put runners at first and second. Dylan Poynter drove in Crawford with a single to set Barren with an early 3-0 lead.
The Scotties got a run back in the bottom of the first. Carter Hodges led off with a single, and later scored on a two-out double by Thomas Glass.
Glasgow cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second. Landon Martin drew a walk to lead off. Huston Haynes followed with a single, then JP Pitcock bunted into a fielder’s choice, but Martin beat the throw to third and that left the bases loaded.
After an out at home, Hodges drove in Huston Haynes with a single.
The Scotties tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Hodges hit a one-out single. Braylen Caldwell entered to run for him and eventually scored on a double by Keaton Haynes.
Glasgow took control of the game by scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Steven Garrett opened with a single. Martin dropped a bunt single, then moved to second on an error. That same error allowed Garrett to score.
Huston Haynes followed with a single and Martin moved to third on the hit. Martin scored on a sacrifice fly by Caldwell. Huston Haynes moved to third on the sacrifice.
Garett Shields followed with a double, then he and Huston Haynes scored on a double by Hodges.
Rashad Etheridge entered to run for Hodges. He later scored on a ball hit by Keaton Haynes that was misplayed. Keaton Haynes eventually scored on a double by Glass to give the Scotties a 9-3 lead.
Hodges on the mound struck out five of the next six batters he faced to seal the win. He went the distance, allowed five hits, struck out 13 and walked three.
Hodges also had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in. Glass was 3-for-3 batting with a pair of doubles. Garrett and Huston Haynes each had a pair of hits, while Shields, Martin and Keaton Haynes each posted a hit.
The Trojans used three pitchers in the game. Landon Uhles started on the mound and lasted three innings. He allowed six hits, struck out three and walked two. Gavin Coffey and Malachi Pendleton pitched the other three innings. They combined to allowed eight hits, strike out three and walk two.
Thompson led Barren at the plate with two hits, while Pierce, Crawford and Poynter each posted a hit.
With the win, Glasgow improved to 2-3 in 15th District action and 16-14 overall. Barren fell to 2-3 in district and 15-12 overall.
The teams play against Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Barren County.
