Barren County improved to 2-1 in 15th District action with a 6-2 win at Allen County-Scottsville on Monday. The Trojans and Patriots meet again Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Barren County.
On Monday, all of the scoring in the game was done after three and a half-innings.
The Trojans took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Jax Vincent led off the game with a single, then Colten Wilson singled to left field. They both advanced an extra base on the throw to the infield.
That set Jaxon Pierce up to drive in Vincent with a ground out to third. Wilson took third on the play. Then Gavin Coffey drove in Wilson with a single to center field.
Allen got a run back in the bottom of the first, but Barren took control of the game with three runs in the top of the third.
Vincent again led off with a single. Wilson next drew a walk. Pierce dropped a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up a base. That set up Coffey, who put a ground ball into play that was mishandled. Vincent scored on the play, while Wilson moved to third base and Coffey took second.
Wilson scored from third on a passed ball during Skylar Potter’s at-bat. Potter eventually drew a walk to put runners at the corners. Cameron Crawford next drove in Coffey with a single to put the Trojans ahead 5-1.
The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the third inning, before the Trojans added their final run in the top of the fourth.
Potter pitched five innings and allowed six hits. He also struck out four and walked two. Landon Uhles closed the final two innings, allowed one hit, struck out four and walked one.
Vincent led Barren at the plate with three hits, including a double. Coffey added two hits, while Wilson, Pierce and Crawford each had a hit.
