Even though his contract ends in about two months, Glasgow Independent Schools Superintendent Chad Muhlenkamp is set to remain in the district’s top position.

After meeting in closed session for about 45 minutes on Monday night at Glasgow Middle School, board of education members approved a motion to appoint Muhlenkamp as superintendent of the school district.

“In closed session, no action was taken,” Board Chair Mary Burchett-Bower said. “We did have discussion which might lead to the appointment of an individual employee.”

Board member Barret Lessenberry then made a motion “to appoint Chad as the superintendent subject to negotiation with our board chair and board attorney.”

The board unanimously approved the motion after board member William Thornbury seconded it.

Muhlenkamp explained after the meeting that since his contract was ending, the board needed to make a decision.

“My contract actually ends June 30,” he said. “The board needed to make a decision if they were going to reappoint me or if they were going in a different direction.”

When board members evaluated Muhlenkamp last year, they gave him an “exemplary” rating, with Burchett-Bower stating that they were pleased with his vision for the district.

In other business on Monday, Muhlenkamp announced that Glasgow High School’s Class of 2026 graduation will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22, which is the last day of school for students.
