A new Democrat has thrown their hat into the ring, aiming to succeed Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear in 2027.
Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman, who has served as Beshear’s second-in-command for two-terms, announced her candidacy for the commonwealth’s top executive position on Monday. She hopes to follow Beshear, who is term-limited and will be leaving office after the 2027 election.
Coleman, who is a former assistant principal at Nelson County High School, has focused on education and child care during, and even before, her tenure in Frankfort, founding the Lead Kentucky education policy nonprofit in 2013, according to the courier journal.
Currently, she is the only Democrat who has announced their candidacy.
