The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a partner to co-manage recreational sites at Barren River Lake, including the Tailwater Campground in nearby Allen County.

A partnership could “potentially lead to longer operating seasons and more recreational opportunities,” prevent closures, allow for better services, and allow the fees to stay local instead of going into the U.S. Treasury, a press release stated. Up to 100 percent of fees may be kept by the non-federal partner, according to the release.

This partnership will also save the corps money, maintain eligibility for corps appropriations for recreational sites and will allow collected fees to “be reinvested in the recreation site.”

Any non-federal public entity, which encompasses state, county or local governments, public institutions of higher education, or tribes, is encouraged to submit its proposal by 4 p.m. om May 21.

Once a selection is made and approved by the District Commander, the Operations Project Manager and the non-federal partner will work to develop a mutually agreed upon operations plan that will describe in sufficient detail so that each party has a complete and thorough understanding of their roles, authorities, and responsibilities.
