SKYCTC honors local students for success in Allied Health programs

Two students from Barren County were recognized during this year’s Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College Allied Health Awards Ceremony for their success in the program.

Barren County’s April Saldana was honored with the Clinical Excellence award in Medical Laboratory Technology, an award that recognizes students who demonstrate the highest level of clinical proficiency in their program. Another Barren County student, Stacey Illenye, received the Excellence in Leadership award in Medical Laboratory Technology. That award goes to students who stand out for leadership and integrity in their programs, the release stated.

The awards are designed to spotlight students who excel in the classroom, in clinical settings and in leadership roles as they prepare for careers in healthcare, a college press release stated.

During the April 1 event, 20 Allied Health students were recognized for academic achievement, clinical excellence and leadership across several programs, including Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiography, Respiratory Care, Surgical Technology and Medical Information Technology.

In addition to the Barren County honorees, students from Warren, Butler, Logan, Allen, Simpson and Marion counties were recognized.
