Glasgow Independent Schools hope to have a new South Green Elementary principal in place by mid-April.
“The district anticipates naming the next principal on April 15th, allowing time for a successful transition into the role,” the district website stated.
Members of the elementary school’s site-based decision-making council recently met to review and discuss results from a stakeholder survey that closed March 22, according to information provided to Glasgow News 1. The survey drew 96 responses, 52.1 percent of which came from parents or guardians, according to the district’s information.
“That’s good to see,” said Glasgow Independent Schools Superintendent Chad Muhlenkamp.
Twenty-five percent of responses came for district staff, and 18.8 percent came from the elementary school staff members.
Survey participants were asked to rank the qualities they consider most important in South Green Elementary’s next principal, aside from the technical skills required. The top five priorities were: communication and effective interpersonal skills, maintaining a good school climate, making changes based on needs, accessibility and promoting high expectations for students, according to the survey results.
These responses and community comments are expected to help shape interview questions. Candidate interviews are expected to take place on April 2, according to the district’s tentative timeline.
Principal Josh Turner’s decision to step down at the conclusion of this academic year was the cause of the vacancy, which was posted on the district’s website on March 6. Turner will either be assigned to South Green or Highland elementary.
