The Barren County Clerk’s Office is warning residents about fraudulent text messages that are circulating in the community.
“We have received SEVERAL phone calls today regarding a fraudulent text message that is going around our community,” the clerk’s office stated. “Please know this is 100 percent FRAUD.”
The text messages claim the recipient has unpaid traffic violations and threaten “enforcement actions,” legal or financial consequences if the violation is not resolved by the deadline of March 22, according to the clerk’s office.
The Barren County Clerk’s Office stated that the messages are entirely fraudulent and are not from their office or any legitimate government agency and are urging residents not to click any links, not to follow any instructions from the texts and not to share personal or financial information in response.
The clerk’s office says anyone who is concerned about possible traffic violations or unsure whether a notice is real should contact the Barren County Clerk’s Office directly by phone and staff can help verify whether there are any outstanding issues on a person’s record and confirm if any official notices have been sent.
