The Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library will be hosting an adult spelling bee at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The competition will consist of three rounds with words getting increasingly harder — and there’s a twist: spellers will be able to use two of four lifelines including phone a friend, pass, save or skip.
Amy Tollison, adult services manager at the library, told Glasgow News 1 that she got the idea for this event from other libraries.
“I think it’s going to be fun,” she said. “I hope that people are going to take it really light-heartedly, and be able to kind of laugh at themselves and have a good time.”
The winner of the spelling bee will take home a trophy and a $25 Amazon gift card.
In order to participate, spellers must be at least 18 years old and they need to register online at the library’s website as the field will be limited.
Tollison said while they will limit the number of participants, the public is welcome to attend this free event.
