A Glasgow man has become one of the newest troopers with the Kentucky State Police.
Gabriel Wheeler was one of 32 cadets who graduated from the state police’s training academy at the end of January. He is a part of Cadet Class 106 that completed the 24 weeks of “intensive academic instruction and practical training,” according the the Kentucky Justice and Safety Cabinet.
“We are excited to welcome Trooper Wheeler to Post 03,” Captain Tim Adams said. “We are looking forward to seeing how he grows in to his new career.”
Wheeler also earned his associate degree in General Occupational and Technical Studies from the Bluegrass Community and Technical College during his weeks at the training academy, benefiting from the new hiring guidelines established by the state legislature in 2017 that allows anyone who possesses a high school diploma or GED — and who has three years of full-time work experience — to apply for employment with the state police and earn an associate degree during the training process, according to the cabinet.
