Jim McGowan, Glasgow Public Works superintendent, is optimistic about clearing city streets of ice and snow in the coming days.

While temperatures have dropped overnight, causing wet snow and water to refreeze on roadways, McGowan told Glasgow News 1 that road conditions are improving.

“It is starting to melt,” McGowan said. “It’s looking a lot better. We’ve got a 30 degree day, so by the end of the day it’ll be a whole different world.”

“The sun is really helping the snow leave here,” he added.

There are still slick spots, especially in residential neighborhoods and in shady areas, McGowan said. Caution is advised if travel is necessary.

McGowan said road crews were out salting and scraping roads at 7 a.m.

The National Weather Service predicts a high of 30 degrees for today, a high of 27 degrees for Wednesday, and a 32 degree high for Thursday.
