The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Barren County in the coming days.

The warning begins at midnight on Jan. 24 and lasts until 6 a.m. on Jan. 26, according to the service.

“Total snow accumulations between 10 and 14 inches [though] localized higher amounts possible,” the service stated. “Travel could be very difficult to impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”

A warning is more severe than a watch, which Barren County was in previously. As the weather becomes more likely it is typical for a watch to be upgraded, according to the National Weather Service. It is issued when heavy snow of at least 6 inches in 12 hours, or 8 inches in 24 hours, is expected, according to the National Weather Service.
