A Glasgow and Barren County nonprofit is offering people a warm refuge that’s temporarily available 24 hours a day.

Bridge Kentucky’s warming room is located at 1411 N. Race Street in Glasgow. Departing from the usual hours of operation, the warming room will temporarily be opened at all times in an effort to mitigate the impact of the predicted frigid temperatures, snow and ice, according to Wade Copas, Bridge Kentucky’s executive director.

“It’s a temporary thing with the threat of the forecasted weather,” Copas said. “We wanted to make it available for people. I mean we’re talking a foot of snow. We don’t want people out there and have to suffer through it.”

He said individuals will need to fill out an intake form even if not using the nonprofit’s other services. Copas emphasized that a person does not have to be homeless to avail themselves of the room.

“If they’re able to get to us, then we’ll definitely give them refuge,” Copas said.

While there is no cots or beds set up in the room currently, Copas said it’s a possibility if the weather worsens.
