The country transportation committee got a progress report on Oil Well Road on Friday morning.

In advance of the full Barren County Fiscal Court on Jan. 20, members of the county transportation committee met and briefly discussed Oil Well Road on Friday, Jan. 16. County Road Department Supervisor Jamie DeGroft said contractors are hopefully going to pour concrete on Wednesday, Jan. 21.

The portion of the county road will be opened roughly a week after the concrete is poured, DeGroft said. The bridge is currently closed.

“It was asphalt before [and] this time we’re putting them back in concrete,” DeGroft said. “Being in the teens…concrete might crack in that cold, so weather permitting they’ll pour Wednesday and hopefully within another week or so it’s opened up.”

The portion of Oil Well Road over Skaggs Creek was closed to through traffic on Jan. 5 to allow repair work to be done on the bridge approaches. At a Nov. 17 transportation committee meeting a $204,000 from Bluegrass and Associates was recommended, which was later accepted by the Barren County Fiscal Court.

Deputy Judge-Executive Garland Gilliam said previously that the money for the repairs to the approaches were provided through Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Oil Well Road is south of Glasgow and connects Pritchardsville Road with Austin Tracy Road.
