PIG — A missing pilot and helicopter was located Monday shortly after 3 p.m. The pilot was deceased.
Authorities were conducting flyover searches across the region most of Monday morning and early afternoon. The helicopter was last seen traveling toward Glasgow by a group of hunters in Ohio County.
David Stone, the pilot, was confirmed dead after the aircraft was discovered in wooded area along Park Boundary Road near Mammoth Cave National Park. His wife was notified, according to emergency management officials.
Stone had left Coeur Airport near St. Louis around noon on Saturday, Sept. 3. He last talked with his wife while refueling in Sparta, Ill. and said he planned to travel to Glasgow for another refuel. He planned to end his flight in Knoxville, Tenn.
Stone’s wife later called Glasgow Police, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Smiths Grove Police. Authorities pinged his phone and discovered he was near the Warren and Edmonson County line near the Chalybeate community.
Road surveys were conducted Sunday and Monday. No additional information about Stone or his death were released.
