A former Barren County player and assistant coach has been picked to replace Robin McMurtrey as the head coach of the volleyball program.
McMurtrey announced her retirement during the 2025 season after leading the program for several years. Carlie Stephens served as an assistant for McMurtrey and played for her as well. Stephens was announced as the new head coach Monday via a press release from the school district.
“We are thrilled to welcome Carlie into this new leadership position,” said Barren County High School Principal Letitia Hughes. “Her connection to our program, her knowledge of the game, and her commitment to our student-athletes make her the perfect choice to lead the next chapter of Trojanette Volleyball.”
“I am incredibly honored and excited as I step into this role. I’m thankful to not only be coaching at the school I played for, but also for succeeding the wonderful coach Robin McMurtrey, whom I played for and coached alongside as well,” Stephens said. “Our Trojanettes are some of the most talented and dedicated young women around, and I cannot wait to see our competitive future shine. Thank you to our administration for putting your faith in me, and our players for making coaching so rewarding. I hope to make Barren proud.
Athletic Director Warren Cunningham also praised the transition, noting that Stephens’ commitment to the program and strong rapport with student-athletes will provide stability and momentum moving forward.
