Trojans win swim meet at Monroe

The Barren County Trojans swam away with a win at Monroe County on Thursday. The Trojans posted 83 points, while Allen County-Scottsville was second with 78 points, and Monroe finished third with 20.

Brayden Willis led the way for Barren with wins in the boys 200 freestyle and the boys 100 freestyle — 2:42.46 and 1:09.32, respectively. Devan Poland won the boys 100 backstroke with a time of 1:29.63. Landon Miller finished second in the 200 freestyle, and third in the 100 free. Cole Hawks was third in the boys 100 breaststroke.

Poland swam fifth in the boys 50 free, and Slayton Cropper was seventh in that event. Hawks was sixth in the 100 free, and Cropper was seventh in that event.

The Barren County girls’ team was third in their meet with 63 points. Allen County-Scottsville won the girls’ meet with 96 points, while Monroe County was second with 79 points.

Gracie Reed won the girls 200 free with a time of 2:48.66. Molly Beckham swam third in that event. Lindsey Jackson finished second in the girls 100 backstroke with a time of 1:33.10. Abigail Kingery was fourth in that event.

Karena Gschwend swam second in the girls 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:37.25. She also finished third in the girls 100 free. Reed was fourth in that event, while Lindsey Jackson finished eighth. Kingery, Beckham, Paxton Cropper and Alba Moulder also competed in that event. Cropper and Moulder finished eighth and 10th, respectively, in the girls 50 free.

Allen won the meet overall with a combined 174 points, while Barren was second with 146 and Monroe was third with 99.
