Jul 27, 2025 | 3:02 PM

Elizabeth Lee (Mudd) “Betty” Irby, of Albany, Kentucky passed away peacefully, with her son, Patrick by her side, at the Medical Center in Albany, Kentucky, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, having attained the age of 91 years. She was born on Sunday, December 19, 1933, in Anderson, Indiana, the daughter of Bernard Leo & Ellen (Hill) Mudd.

Betty was an artist, puzzle expert, book, and music lover, butterfly enthusiast, beach goer, with a daily passion for chocolate. (Especially ice cream!) She never turned down a chance to be a copilot and go on an adventure with loved ones.

Sharing Betty’s own words – “I tried my best to exercise, eat right, and to be healthy. I wasted a lot of time worrying about things that did not matter. I was afraid of growing old. Now look at me – a goner. What the heck? It’s not so bad. Now I am a shining star, soaring high above the Earth, singing and dancing, turning and twinkling. Live, laugh, love and enjoy everything you have. To my beautiful family – I am thankful for all of you.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Bill Duvall Irby, whom she wed on June 29, 1963, sisters, Barbara Mudd, Mary (Mudd) Black, and Rita (Mudd) Ritter.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Gretchen Duggan (& Tom Mort) of Rhode Island, son, Patrick Irby of Albany, Kentucky, two of six “Mudd” sisters, Patricia (Mudd) Cole, and Laura Mudd, both of Indiana, grandchildren, Elizabeth Duggan, Tanner (& Morgan) Duggan, and Michael Mort, and great-grandson, Mylo Thomas Duggan. She is loved and missed by her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 27th, 2025, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the family home & farm. They request that you come willing to share stories, laughter and love. In lieu of flowers, contributions appreciated to the Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
